Hi, I will temporarily live in an apartment with many wifi networks around. I am thinking about using one of these (not secured) networks as my ISP there. Can you recommend an Ubiquiti product that would perform the best in connecting to (perhaps not the best) wifi signal in this neighborhood? Here's what I've been thinking about: AirRouter PowerAP N NanoStation M2 (in the window) or maybe something like Rocket M + AMO-2G13? I am probably killing a fly with atomic bomb, but I can easily get reimbursed for hardware I buy (and not so easily for services like ISP at home).

Thanks for comments / suggestions. Thanks for help. Let's be honest - if people have no protection this is only to make it available to the others. And who does not like the idea of making wifi a free, public good. I had a neighbor that thought the exact same thing a few years ago even though my SSID was 'fullyinfected' so after changing it to 'stay off' and a few other choice things and he had wifi at his house but thought it was better to download i-mesh music with my connection. I logged into his machine and deleted all his music/documents/pictures. Remember some people setup rogue open wireless to get information from you.

How to Hack your Unifi Dlink router just in case you've changed the default password and lost it. It really could not be any easier to set up one of these devices either. All the mounting hardware and screws are provided in each device which makes mounting the it a breeze.

(at the time I had some device that didn't work with WEP) now I am secured. Let's be honest - if people have no protection this is only to make it available to the others. And who does not like the idea of making wifi a free, public good. People have no protection if they intentionally want to have open access, which is is hardly what you are seeing. People have no protection because they are ignorant and didn't secure or don't know how to secure their AP. Regardless of what they failed to secure their AP does not give you the de facto right to access it. The test for unauthorized access to a computer network is if you were given specific permission to access it, which I hardly think this is the case (especially if you have no idea who's AP it is).

Just because it's an open AP dos not automatically infer you are given the right for access. Furthermore, you may have no clue if the AP has client isolation active. If not, then you may have no idea who is stealing *your* information and files. And since you have joined that network, anyone could infer (by your logic) that you have explicitly given them permission to view, borrow, steal, and bork up your life. Thanks for help.

A large number of businesses on this board make their living (or portion thereof) by charging for Internet service that they spent a LOT of time, effort and money to establish. The person who leaves an AP (or rogue AP) unsecured is not authorized to give away that Internet service for free to others. People who exploit such 'opportunities' are stealing from the ISP. In case there is any doubt how I view this, I will state clearly that if I were the affected ISP I would find you and sue you for theft of the Internet service that I worked so hard to provide and continue to work hard to maintain.
